About the Collection

Ever since I was a small boy growing up in Scotland the adventures of astronauts have fascinated me. Those pioneering souls bravely pushing back the frontiers were my heroes. I can vividly remember watching the drama of the Apollo 13 mission unfold (being too young for Apollo 11!) and the concern that my family had for the crew and their relief on their safe return. That passion never left but re-ignited in the early nineties when I became aware that I could get signed photos of my heroes. I began collecting then and haven't stopped since!

Being on this side of the Atlantic has meant that there has been little chance of an 'astronaut encounter' but I have managed to meet two moonwalkers. I spent quite a bit of time with John Young when he was visiting Aberdeen and met Alan Shepard at a lecture in Edinburgh - despite no longer looking like their Apollo portraits one could not mistake the steel in these individuals, nor doubt their ability to get the job done nor ever question that they did indeed have the 'right stuff'. I am grateful for these meetings, as seldom does one get the opportunity to meet one's heroes and even less seldom do they live up to one's high expectations.

This site is my tribute to those men and women - I hope you enjoy it.
